James L. Norrington

James is a Commodore in His Majesty's Royal Navy, ridiculously young for his post and his rank. Stationed in the Caribbean-- not even in Kingston, but in Port Royal-- James has always known that he is, politically, a foregone conclusion. No military greats are commissioned in the Caribbean; this is the place where the Admiralty sends men to forget about them.

"Commodore" is not even a military title-- it is a courtesy shown to a man in control of more than one ship and trying to keep together an entire Port. James is well aware of this; He is a Commodore in speech, and a Post-Captain in function.

After all, nothing works as it should in the Caribbean; it harbors murderous Navymen, good-hearted thieves, and, of course, undead pirates. James is a rock in the sea of men who are not what they should be; a good navyman, rarer even than a bad pirate.

Appearance

Tall, with dark hair and green eyes. James has good posture, and always walks straight-backed. He tops out at nearly six-foot-two; tall, for this point in time. He tends to go about blank-faced and proper, but does have a wicked smirk when he feels like using it.

Personality

James is proper, stiff, and serious when at all possible; he's rumored to have a stick up his arse, and with good reason. Around friends-- His Lieutenants, mainly-- he relaxes and jokes, but not to an excessive amount.

He's young, still, and hotheaded at times, reckless even. He'll take chances older, more experienced officers wouldn't; but he hasn't yet sailed through a hurricane. He tries to be steady, to hold to the rules and regulations, but a pretty girl can still manipulate him.

Above all, however, he is a Naval Officer, and will always do his duty.

Verse

James is still a Commodore; he hasn't begun to chase after Sparrow yet, having let the one day's head start drag on to a week of resupplying and making ready to play the long game with the Black Pearl, aware he's not going to win on speed alone.
